Across our group of specialist businesses, we support the UK’s environmental sector through services that span capital projects, operational assets, water infrastructure, sludge treatment, reservoir construction and land remediation. Our work helps customers meet complex environmental challenges with practical delivery, technical expertise and responsible solutions.
Blackwell Earthmoving, part of the Hargreaves group, has almost 70 years of experience preparing sites for large-scale reservoir and land remediation projects. Its teams specialise in complex earthmoving schemes, providing early engineering support through to final testing and handover for multi-million-pound projects.
Innovation also plays an important role in reducing impact and improving efficiency. Blackwell uses drone technology to map large-scale earthmoving projects with accuracy and efficiency, alongside a modern fleet of excavators, dozers, scrapers and dump trucks fitted with the latest technology. This includes battery-operated excavators as part of our journey towards carbon-free earthworks by 2040.
Through our Environmental division, we provide essential services to major water utilities in the treatment and disposal of sewage sludge. We manage outlets to land for agricultural and land remediation purposes, ensuring the movement, treatment and application of sludge is carried out responsibly and in line with the latest regulatory guidance.
Our S&B Utilities subsidiary also supports the water utility sector through small EPC projects delivered into utility frameworks. From our prefabrication facility in Knaresborough, we fabricate and assemble high-quality equipment that supports capital investment across the UK’s clean water and wastewater infrastructure.
