The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading, developing and implementing all health, safety and wellbeing arrangements associated with the design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover of the Foul Treatment Plant (FTP) and Potable Water Plant (PWP) at Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station.
The role will provide strategic and operational health and safety leadership across all project activities, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, nuclear industry requirements, client standards and company policies. The Health & Safety Manager will actively support the delivery team in achieving an incident-free project through the development of a positive safety culture and the implementation of effective risk management processes.
The role briefly encompasses the following duties but is not limited to: -
- Leading the development and implementation of the project Health & Safety Management Plan and wellbeing strategy.
- Promoting a positive safety culture through behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, client requirements and nuclear industry standards.
- Conducting audits, inspections and assurance reviews across project activities.
- Leading risk assessments, reviewing RAMS and supporting effective risk management processes.
- Managing contractor safety performance, competence assessments and improvement programmes.
- Leading incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Producing safety performance reports and providing guidance to project leadership teams.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/experience/ attributes:
- Qualifications: NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) and Graduate or Chartered IOSH membership.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years' health and safety experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, energy or industrial sectors.
- Project Experience: Proven experience managing health and safety on major projects valued in excess of £20 million.
- Leadership: Experience leading site-based health and safety teams and developing safety management systems.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015, risk management, audits and incident investigations.
- Communication: Excellent stakeholder engagement, coaching and influencing skills.
- Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence.
- Desirable: Experience within nuclear, water, wastewater, process plant or major infrastructure environments.
